Irish Road Signs
IRELAND REGULATORY ROAD SIGNS: These signs indicate the existence of a road regulation and show the course a driver must follow, the action he is permitted to take or action he is forbidden to take. They are generally circular in shape, with a red surround and with black symbols / letters on a white background. In the Gaeltacht (Irish speaking areas) there are signs in Irish - just be cautious if you can't figure out what they mean.

GENERAL SIGNS
These signs generally follow the convention in Europe but you may see some old signs that are unique to Ireland and do not conform but you should be able to figure our what they mean.
WARNING SIGNS
These signs give advance warning of a hazard, are diamond shapes with black symbols / letter on a yellow background.
MORE WARNING SIGNS
These signs give advance warning of a hazard, are diamond shapes with black symbols / letter on a yellow background.
DIVERSION & ROADWORK SIGNS
These orange signs give warning of roadworks and temporary changes to your route. You may also see more contemporary warning lights perhaps even with scrolling messages.

Irelands roads are a mix of ancient and modern - the new motorways are a joy to use but in rural areas there are many narrow roads where you should watch out for farm animals and machinery.
